We found a sheltered place for lunch and then carried on past Yewtree Farm and along Shellow Lane. A filed path then took us north past Clover Bank Farm and past the fishing pools to the start at Gawsworth Church. Many thanks to everyone for coming along on this breezy overcast day and dry day.

Route - Poynton Pool - Hockley - Middlewood Way - Hagg Farm - Middlewood - Station - New House Farm - Poynton Pool

Eleven of us set off from Poynton Pool and followed the field paths and tracks across to Hockley. We crossed the lane and walked through the woods to the Middlewood Way where we stopped for our coffee break. Then after a short way up the lane we entered the wood  and did not spot the closed footpath sign until we encountered a closed wonky footbridge. In the wood we eventually found a way across as the water level was reasonably low were able to cross both streams and reached the main path on the opposite bank. We passed Hagg Farm  and Throstlenest Farm and once over the moor we found a sheltered place for lunch. Then it was on past Platt Wood Farm and Middlescale Farm and onto the canal towpath
for a short way. We entered Middle Wood and passed Middlewood Station. Once over the rail line we headed to New House Farm and then it was across the fields and back to the start at Poynton Pool.

Many thanks to our walkers for coming along on the walk, our group were Alec, Chris J, Dave I, Alan B, Wendy, Alan S, Marilyn, Anne, Kim, Judith and David P our leader.

Route - Treak Cliff Cavern - Odin Mine - Knowlesgate Farm - Spring House Farm - Hope - Peakshole Water Castleton - Treak Cliff Cavern

Nine of us set off from Treak Cliff Cavern and after a short walk along the lane we took the footpath past Odin Mine and then a very muddy and slippery path with a few slips and trips on the  way down to Knowlesgate Farm. Once path the farm the path improved and we stopped for our coffee break in the grounds of the cemetery on the outskirts of Castleton.

Our route then took us along the valley past Spring House Farm to the quarry railway line where we discovered there were only eight of us. A quick established that Jo was missing. A quick phone call established that she was several hundred yards away having being delayed by another walking group at a  narrow path junction. A search party soon located her and she was quickly reunited  back to the group.

On reaching Hope Village we stopped in the Church Yard for our lunch and then followed the path alongside the the small river Peakshole Water and into Castleton where we stopped for Coffee and cake at a lovely Cafe on the main street, richly deserved after such an interesting walk with sunny periods during the day.  A short walk back along the road brought us back to the roadside parking by Treak Cliff Cavern. Walkers today on this seven mile walk were Judith, Dave I, Eve, Alan B, Peter F, Jo, Ray, Sue P and David P our leader

Route - Biddulph Country Park - Cheshire Close - Congleton Edge - Nick i'th'Hill- Higher Whitemoor Farm - Biddulph Country Park

Seven of us met at Biddulph Grange. We went to the A527, turned south past the church, then across the road and down the footpath, across the valley, and up on to the old railway, south to Hollylane and then up the Staffordshire Moorland walk. We had coffee break halfway up to Cheshire Close. and then up to the viewpoint. We followed the Edge north east through Nick i' th' Hill to the end for lunch. A closed footpath rearranged the route down through Higher Whitemoor Farm to the road. Crossing the road we followed the footpath up to the Talbot, and back down to the cars.

Many thanks to Dave Ilett for leading this lovely six mile walk, other members of the group were Anita, Marylyn, Suzanne, Alan B, Alex and Peter. F

Route -

Seven of us set off from the car park on Lindow Common and followed the track across Lindow Moss and around the pool at Saltersley Hall Farm. After a short walk along Burleyhurst Lane we crossed the fields to Oak Farm, and then the fun started, we missed the first path to the runway so took the second path only to be thwarted by a flooded section too deep to paddle through, the third path seemed ok and we stopped for our coffee break on the edge of the runway watching the planes take off.

Alas the fun was not over as the muddy and sloping path caused numerous slips and slides and we eventually arrived a bit mud spattered on the tarmac road. We crossed the main road and entered Styal Woods and walked along the path alongside the River Bollin  with lots of steps up and down  on the river bank before stopping for lunch on a few fallen logs.

After lunch we continued along the various paths until we arrived at the busy Quarry Bank Mill. After a brief stop we continued along the North Cheshire Way and then after passing the Rugby Ground we walked through the Pownall Park estate and back the start at Lindow Common. A seven mile walk led by David P, others in the group were Wendy, Alan S, Dave I, Susan M, Anita and Sheila D.

Route - Danebridge - Dane Valley Way - Gradbach - Heild End Farm - Blaze Farm - Allmeadows - Wincle - Danebridge

Nine of us set off from Danebridge and followed the Dane Valley Way alongside the River Dane stopping for a coffee break on the way to Gradbach. Then it was a steep climb up the hillside to the Eagle and Child, a lovely old farmhouse dating back to 1738.

An easy track up onto the moor where we stopped for our lunch with some great views over the surrounding countryside. Afterwards we continued along the track to Heild End Farm and then a steady walk along the busy A54 brought us to Blaze Farm where we stopped  to sample their delicious ice creams.

We then followed the track down into Wildboarclough and managed to cross a tricky bit of the flooded track and then up onto the lane. An easy walk along the lane heading south then brought us to Allmeadows where we joined a pleasant footpath for the walk back to Danebridge.

A lovely sunny seven mile walk which I think we all enjoyed led by David P, the rest of the walkers were Dave I, Anita, Alec, Chris J, Kim, Alan B, Wendy and Judith

Eleven of us set off from Whaley Bridge Canal Basin and headed through he Park alongside the River Goyt, we crossed the road at Horwich End and followed the lane to Cadster House missing the turning and ending up on a small estate only to be redirected by a local resident back onto the correct path. David the walk leader blamed the map ( a likely story) anyway once back on track we passed Tunstead Farm and Meveril Farm and joined the lane past Coombs Reservoir Dam and then crossed Chapel Road. An easy walk up the lane to Sparkbottom and then across the Golf Course and up to Bradshaw Hall, a beautiful building dating from around 1620. We carried on up the hillside to Lidgate and stopped for lunch overlooking the valley below. A hillside path took us beneath Eccles Pike and down to Buxworth, a steep hill took us up to Silkhill Farm and then it was back down the lane to the car park in Whaley Bridge. Some of us enjoyed an excellent coffee and cake at the Bridge Bakehouse after the walk. The walk was led by David P and the other walkers were Chris J, Alec J, Kim, Dave I,  Ray, Sue P, Rita, Alan B, Kath and Wendy.

Thirteen of us set off from Meerbrook and after passing the Church Hall we headed left over the fields to Franklin's Farm and onto Folly's Rest, along the road to Fould and then up the ridge to Gun, through New Zealand where sadly the St Bernard was bereft of his brandy barrel, past Wetwood and back to the cars, the drizzle providing company for the final stretch.

Twelve of us set off from Buxton and followed the paths and tracks across to Harpurhill, we then had a short road walk into the village  and then up the hillside and along the disused level track beneath Staker Hill  where we stopped for our coffee break with some great views across the fields below.

We continued on along the track and then passed under the rail line and descended down across the fields to Brierlow Bar Book Shop and Cafe. An ideal place to eat our lunch. We then continued across the road and down into Brierlow Dale and then up the hillside and across the fields to the lane  near Kings Sterndale.

An easy path then led us across the fields to Cowdale and Staden. We then passed through the Caravan Site and down to the outskirts of Buxton. It was then an easy walk along the paths and back to the start at Green Lane.

Eleven of us set off from Adlington on a warm sunny morning and headed through Wych Wood to the Macclesfield Canal and then it was north  along the canal towpath stopping at a shady place for a coffee break.

Route - Shakerley Mere-  Hulme Hall - Millgate Farm - Cheadle Farm -  Lower Peover - Millbank Farm - Foxcovert - Dams Lane - Shakerley Mere

Ten of us set off from Shakerley Mere on a bright day and walked up the lane and then onto the track which took us past the Hulme Hall a moated site dating from the 15th century, as we passed a few photos were taken much to the objection of the man on the tractor mowing the lawn. We did not tarry long and marched off quickly and then stopping for our coffee break at a safe distance. Afterwards we encountered more overgrown paths littered with badger holes, Dave Ilett came to the rescue with his secateurs and soon cleared a path through the undergrowth.

A walk up the lane took us to New Farm and the first of the many overgrown stiles. The first was very dense so we climbed the gate and followed the path across the field to the lane where we were confronted with another blocked and overgrown stile. Dave again sprang into action with his secateurs and eventually managed to clear a way through and we emerged onto the lane by Cheadle Farm.

Here a very large dog in the farmyard followed us with suspicion and we quickly exited the yard into the field only to be confronted with a large herd of cows and calves who followed us enthusiastically along the track and it was here David the leader lost the path due to all the new fences that had been erected since our last visit. We found a new track and followed it to the boundary.

More gate climbing ensued, and we continued up Back Lane past Fields Farm and over the busy M6 where we stopped for lunch on the abandoned golf course. Afterwards we continued  on and joined the lane to Lower Peover and into the churchyard of St Oswalds where we stopped briefly to admire the quite stunning building.

Millbank Farm was next and Foxcovert and then it was back to the field paths which then took us through a field of sweetcorn, A veritable maze well over head height and quite dense. We eventually emerged at the far end with a few scratches and ruffled hair and after a roll call to make sure we had all made it, plasters and tissues were used to tend the scratches and then we were off again across the fields and along Dams Lane.

We crossed the M6 again and joined the path round the Mere back to the cars. A flat seven mile walk through the Cheshire countryside with lots of interesting bits.

David Preston was our leader, and the other walkers were Dave I, Anita, Judith, Alan B, Alec J, Chris J, Kim, Susan M and Eve.

The moat bridge at Hulme Hall

Climbing the gate, the only way to enter the field footpath, not possible to climb next to the hinges as we could not get to them.

We removed some of the undergrowth and then gave up.

Route - Bosley - Upton Fold farm - Linguards Farm - Golden Slack - Wincle Minn - Gritstone Trail - Stilesmeadow Farm - Bosley

Six of us started off from Bosley and almost immediately the rain started as we walked up Fold Lane, a short distance up the busy A54  took us to the track which took us steadily up to the hillside stopping for our coffee break under some dripping trees, afterwards we continued on up the hillside  to the Radio Tower which was shrouded in mist.

At the summit we joined the footpath which took us down the Gritstone Trail to cross the A54 and then along the good track along the ridge of Wincle Minn. As we descended the rain eased off and we stopped for our lunch. The rain had now ceased and the mist cleared giving us some good views across the valley to Bosley Cloud and the Cheshire Plain. We then continued down the hillside passing several farms and joined the lane which took us to Bosley Reservoir. We crossed the dam and over the fields to the main road. It was a short walk up the road back to the car.

Many thanks for everyone for coming along on this very damp walk. I think we all enjoyed it despite the weather. The walk was led by David Preston and the other walkers were Dave I, Susan M, Alan B, Alec J, Peter F.

Route - Derbyshire Bridge - Axe Edge Moor - Orchard Common - Reeve Edge Quarry - Cat and Fiddle - Derbyshire Bridge

Five of us set off from Derbyshire Bridge on a misty and rainy morning. We walked up to and across the A54. We crossed Axe Edge Moor missing the peak due to lack of views and missing our way for a short time. A brief respite in the weather occurred giving us time for a coffee break and then we continued to Orchard Common and onto the Dane Valley Way. Lunch was at Reeve Edge Quarry, then it was across Dane Bower Hollow to the Cat and Fiddle which hove into view as we got within one hundred metres. An easy walk back down the lane took us to the shelter and sanctuary of the vehicles.

Eve, Susan, Alan B, Peter F, and walk leader Dave Ilett walked about 7¼ miles and finished happy but rather damp. (very damp)

Eight of us set off from the Danebridge and headed up the very steep hillside where David the leader managed to miss the footbridge over Hog Clough. The lost path was eventually discovered and we continued up to Hammerton Farm and then across Hammerton Moss to The Wild Boar Inn where we took advantage of the benches outside the closed Inn for our coffee break.

An interesting sunken lane took us over Brown Hill to the path junction where we turned east and followed the track over Cessbank Common where we paused to examine a small gravestone marking a dogs burial.

We continued on along the track past Hazels and then Hammerton Knowl Farm and stopping for lunch on the hillside. We then descended down to the lane and then followed it across the A54 to Allmeadows where we took the track along the hillside past Burnt House Farm and back to the start at Danebridge.

An interesting walk despite the overcast weather led by David Preston, the other walkers were Dave I, Wendy, Alan S, Alan B, Judith Anita and Marilyn
